New 24-hour movement guidelines for children aged 0-5
December 2018
New guidelines have been launched describing how much time young children should spend on physical activity, sitting, screen time and sleeping. South Africa is the first middle-income country to launch these type of guidelines for this age group.
A panel of stakeholders, practitioners and academic drew up the guidelines based on the best available scientific evidence and South Africa’s context and diverse communities. The guide provides daily, age-specific time allocations for the different activities and includes tips for parents and practitioners.
