ECD Employment Stimulus Relief Fund

Last year, the South African government announced emergency funding to help protect jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the funding is for workers at ECD programmes. It is called the ECD Employment Stimulus Relief Fund.

The Fund will pay a special grant to people who work at ECD programmes and who have suffered a loss of income as a result of the pandemic. All types of employees at all types of ECD programmes, including playgroups and childminders, are eligible. Your programme must be open or you must commit to re-opening within 60 days.

An organisation that manages or oversees multiple ECD programmes can apply on behalf of these programmes. This means that SmartStart Franchisors can apply for SmartStarters.

If you are a SmartStarter who was running their programme before 1st March 2020, and would like your Franchisor to apply on your behalf, you will receive a text message (sms) with a link to give your Franchisor permission.

If you would like to apply for the grant directly yourself or want more information, read this short briefing.

The deadline for applying to the fund is Friday, 19 February 2021 so don’t delay!
